Fernie Freestyle Club is a non-profit club for skiers and snowboarders aged 6+. Our focus is to train our athletes in all of the Freestyle modalities: Slopestyle, Moguls, Park, Big Mountain and Natural terrain skiing/riding in a positive, safe and supervised environment. Currently, we have over 200 registrants with 70% of the athletes residing in the Elk Valley! Our club is a member of both Freestyle BC and BC Snowboarding and participates in events that are organized by both these associations as well as IFSA (International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association) events. Our competitive athletes have been selected to Canadian Junior National Championships, BC/Alberta Championships, Provincial and National Freestyle ski Teams.

Among other ongoing initiatives within our club for this year and beyond, we have a larger multi-phase project that will help our athletes, club and greater community. We are looking to fund the purchase of an Airbag for on snow training with a multi year plan to also include an off-snow facility to train year round.

Some of the benefits that an Airbag bring to our club include:

• Allowing club athletes the ability to train at F.A.R. (not only the ones with the financial means to travel. We currently travel to other training sites such as Winsport Calgary,  Whistler, Maximise in Quebec etc)
• Learning jump progression with safe and effective tools is essential to the skier
• It would be the only airbag in the Kootenay’s giving us the ability to host of other teams for training, giving benefit to more athletes in the Kootenay’s (and beyond) and also as a potential for rental income for our club.

Other club initiatives (some in the planning/dreaming stage)

• Off season terrain work to help with our mogul and jump sites
• Possibility of a snow making collaboration with Fernie Alpine Resort to maintain our jumpsites
• Possibility of lights for evening ski training in the terrain park
• Ongoing maintenance and purchase of park features for training
• Ongoing maintenance of our olympic trampoline program
• Ongoing maintenance of our FFC dedicated jump site and mogul site
